My work is about connection—nature, family, and the feeling of home. I paint hummingbirds, nests, florals, and vessels as symbols of life cycles, hope, and renewal. The hummingbird is where it all began. My dad had feeders on his porch in East Texas, and we spent hours watching them together. After he passed, they started showing up again—in life and in my work—guiding me to painting and becoming a constant thread in what I create.
I’m a bit of an experimenter at heart. I love diving into art workshops, playing with new materials, and seeing what happens when I mix things up. The process keeps me curious and always moving forward. I work in mixed media—acrylic, encaustic, collage, and other materials—layering them to build texture and depth.
Traveling the world inspires my color and shapes, but the process is always the same—it’s part intuition, part puzzle. When it all comes together, there’s a moment of clarity and joy.
That’s what I’m chasing in every painting.

Dallas, Texas, 1966
Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1966, Lorra Kurtz discovered her passion for art later in life. After working in the financial services for over a decade, when she relocated to Georgia, she took a bold step by enrolling in interior design courses at The Atlanta College of Art. This immersion in design led her to the world of painting, where she found her true calling.
Lorra is represented by multiple galleries and has held solo exhibitions, participated in group shows, and had the honor of showcasing her work in a museum. Locally, her art has been featured at iconic venues such as Atlanta’s Swan House, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and various designer show homes. Her work has also been featured on Tamara Day’s popular television show, Bargain Mansions, and is held in corporate and private collections both in the U.S. and internationally.
